Weeds of Jennesss Pond

Weeds ID                        Map              Weed Watchers

The purpose of this website is to help people associated with Jenness Pond identify plants that are found there. The more people that are on the lookout for any invasive plants in our pond, the more chance we have to eradicate these weeds before they become a major problem.

Do you know this common weed? Stay tuned!

So please become familiar with the plants along your waterfront. Check it periodically; if you find something new, make sure it is not an invasive species. If you cannot identify a plant and think it might be invasive, please contact Pat Dowst of the Jenness Pond Weed Watchers (pattydowst@gmail.com).

Most of the plants that are desribed on this website are native to our pond. Some of the invasive species that are a threat to Jenness Pond are also described.  A much broader treatment of the plants of New Hampshire ponds is presented in Aquatic Plants and Algae of New Hampshire's Lakes and Ponds by Amy Smagula and Jody Connor of the NHDES. Special thanks to Amy for being readily available to answer our questions about plant identification.

Before proceeding to the Plant ID webpage, it will be helpful to have an overview of the types of plants that are found in different zones of a waterbody. Even though this image came from the NHDES document which is designed for our entire state, many of those plants identified below are found in Jenness Pond. Fortunately invasive milfoil is not found here yet and with your help lets keep it that way!
